Cherry Blossoms Germany, 2008 ☆☆☆☆

A man never had time to tell her wife how much he loved her. Wife dies suddenly. Husband decides to visit his only single son who is working in Tokyo. The husband also finds out that his wife loved traditional Japanese dance. When he meets a steet dancer in Tokyo, both embark on a friendship that will lead the man to reconcile his feelins and finally say goodbye to her wife.
Forget "Lost In Translation", this movie is the real deal if you want to explore the concept of West meets East. A truly amazing movie.

Let's Scare Jessica To Death USA, 1971 ☆☆☆☆

Jessica and her husband decide to go live in the countryside and escape from the city life. Pretty early on in the movie we learn that Jessica just came out of the psychiatric hospital. She hears voices and sees people that are not there. Her troubled mind starts playing games with her as she starts to hear voices that tell her that they will never leave her alone. In addition to this, when she and her boyfriend get to the new house they just bought, a stranger was already living there without permission.
The title of the movie is very deceiving, but that is part of the whole scheme. Is someone trying to scare her? Does she really hear voices? or is the local legend true and ghosts are really appearing? For a movie that is more than 30 years old, it still is pretty scary. Good job.

Pusher Denmark, 1996 ☆☆☆☆

A Danish crime and mafia movie about a "pusher" trying desperately to get 230,000 Crowns to pay for a deal gone wrong. It's crude, realistic, and a lot of fun to watch.

The Wrestler USA, 2008 ☆☆☆

The dramatic downfall of a famous American wrestler, not only professionally, but personally. The story is simple, the performances are incredible. This is a 180 degree change of style for director Aronofsky.

In 3 Days In Drei Tage Bist du Tot, Germany, 2007 ☆☆☆

When Austrians decide to make a horror movie, the end result is usually quite convincing. This is a perfect example of a movie that seems quite mainstream at first glance, ends up being an original shocker.

Adoration Canada, 2008 ☆☆☆

The latest movie from Atom Egoyan explores the many faces of guilt, terrorism and repression. Again, a family drama is the central point of departure for a series of sociological subjects that Egoyan explores in detail in this latest drama.

Blindness USA, 2008 ☆☆

An adaptation of José Saramago's thrilling novel. The citizens of a major metropolis suddenly start getting blind for no apparent reason. In order to stabilize the situation and the chaos that ensues, the government starts locking up the blind in special jails. The chaos that this creates is portrayed in quick action scenes. But again, the book is much more interesting to read.
How To Get Rid of The Others Hvordan Vi Slipper Af Med De Andre, Denmark, 2007 ☆☆☆

A comedy that actually looks quite brutal and realistic, about a fictitious new law in Denmark that will help the government get rid of all those citizens that have become a burden for the State. A harsh critique on the social welfare system for which the country is famous for.

Bienvenue Chez les Ch'tis France, 2008 ☆☆☆

The north of France is portrayed as a mysterious, Siberian cold place, but when our main character accepts a job transfer to a small town up near Calais, he discovers that people are friendlier than he thought. And they speak wierd also, adding "ch" to every word wherever they can, thus the title.

Another Woman USA, 1988 ☆☆☆☆

Woody Allen once stated that Ingmar Bergman had been an influence for him, but I could not find any trace of that in his movies until I saw Another Woman. An introspective drama about love and loss of it, the movie borrows heavily from Bergman's dream sequences, and it succeeds in telling a moving story of a woman who decides to change her life after reaching 50.
Happy-Go-Lucky UK, 2008 ☆☆☆

Open Hearts (Elsker Dig Vor Evigt) Denmark, 2002 ☆☆☆☆

A Dogma-style film directed by Susanne Bier. A doctor falls in love with a woman whose fiancé suffers a terrible car accident. A strictly real and down to earth story with great performances and close-up shots that get you inside the story as though you were part of the drama. Excellent.
